Lions Ventureland Playground

The playground and splash park are landmarks in the Parksville Community Park used by residents and tourists. The playground is well-loved by many generations - parents who played in the park as children, now bring their children and their parents now bring their grandchildren. As well, hundreds of school age children visit with their classrooms each year.
The Parksville Lions Club involvement with the playground began in 1985 and since this time, many new features have been added such as the outdoor gym and splash park as well as ongoing upgrades to the playground. The City is grateful for the Parksville Lions Club members who donate more than 2,000 volunteer hours annually to the playground.
Children love exploring the profusion of brightly coloured slides, swings and jungle gyms. The playground is regularly maintained and updated with new equipment and surfacing to meet accessibility standards appropriate for children with mobility challenges.
In 2021, the BC Tourism Dependent Communities Fund awarded the City $315,000 to facilitate rubber surfacing and installation of the new Harbour Town playground completed in 2022. As well, the City received $300,000 in federal funding from Pacific Economic Development Canada to continue the rubber surfacing in the playground. The City’s contribution to this project is $100,000 and the upgrade will be completed in March 2023.
