Wood Chipping Program
The City’s annual wood chipping program takes place in the spring. In early March, the dates will be announced for 2023 and posted to our website at that time. This will be the only wood chipping program offered in 2023.
General information The City is divided into two zones, west of Craig Street and east of Craig Street. Materials must be at curbside by 8 am as follows:
Only the following items are to be placed on the boulevard before 8 am, prior to the first date the chipper will be in your neighbourhood:
- Branches with a maximum diameter of 6 inches (15cm), stacked with the larger end of the branch or trunk facing the roadway.
- Smaller shrub branches piled for ease of access by the chipping crew.
Rocks, stumps and construction waste may cause injury to the chipper operators and must NOT be included in the piles. Please note that due to safety issues, materials such as pampas grass, yucca and clematis and wisteria vines cannot by chipped. These, along with compostable vegetation, garden debris, leaves, and grass clippings may be taken to the Church Road Transfer Station (8 am to 5 pm daily). Piles containing these items will not be removed by the chipping crew.
Piles must be limited to a size of 5 feet wide x 5 feet long x 3 feet high, and only one pile per residence will be removed by the chipping crew. Do not combine piles from multiple households as it is more difficult and time consuming for the chipping crew to take apart large piles than it is for them to handle smaller piles.
When placing your chipping pile, be sure not to obstruct your property’s City water connection box in the event access is required for maintenance.
