Rebates

The City offers several rebate programs for properties located within City limits. Properties outside City boundaries in the Regional District of Nanaimo are not eligible. All rebates are issued on a first-come, first served basis, subject to the availability of funding which may be exhausted throughout the year. Incomplete applications that do not include all required information (e.g. photos, receipts) are not eligible for funding.

Low Flush Toilet Rebate Program

Low flush toilets reduce water consumption and help conserve our most precious resource. The City offers a $75 rebate for replacing a 13 litre or greater toilet with a CSA approved 6 litre (or less) low flush model.

  • One rebate per residence or business (lifetime maximum one per property).
  • Toilet must be purchased on or after January 1 of the current year.
  • Eligible only for existing buildings within City boundaries connected to City water and sewer.
  • Not available for new construction or replacement of existing low flush toilet.
  • Proof of purchase, installation of new toilet and appropriate disposal of old toilet required.

Rain Barrel Rebate Program

Rain barrels help conserve water, support healthy and sustainable gardens, reduce water utility costs, and lessen demand on the City’s stormwater system. The City offers a rebate of up to $50 for the purchase and installation of a rain barrel.

  • One rebate per residence (50% of purchase cost, to a maximum of $50).
  • Available to owners of existing residential properties with a valid occupancy permit connected to the City’s water system.
  • Rain barrels must be purchased on or after January 1 of the current year.
  • Proof of purchase and installation required.

Security Camera Rebate Program

Security cameras may contribute to reduced crime and safer communities. The City offers a rebate of up to $100 for the purchase and installation of a security camera.

  • One rebate per property owner or business.
  • Camera must be purchased on or after January 1 of the current year.
  • Residential cameras must be installed on the exterior of the building; businesses may install cameras on either the interior or exterior of business.
  • The camera must be purchased; subscriptions or systems with rented equipment are not eligible.
  • Proof of purchase and installation required.
  • Applicants must ensure installations comply with privacy laws and regulations, including the Personal Information Protection and Privacy Act.
  • Business applicants must complete and submit the Privacy Planning Checklist.

Tree Rebate Program

Trees provide environmental, aesthetic, and community benefits and support a healthier urban landscape. Residents are encouraged to choose non invasive species using the "Grow Me Instead Guide".

To support Parksville’s urban forest, the City offers a rebate of up to $50 for planting a tree on private property.

  • One rebate per property per calendar year; tree must be purchased after January 1 of current year.
  • Eligible for owners of existing residential or commercial properties within City boundaries.
  • Trees must be planted in the ground on private property (no potted or boulevard plantings).
  • Eligible species must grow to a mature height over 4.9 m (16 ft).
  • Rebate applies to tree purchase only (not planting costs).
  • Proof of purchase and planting required.
