Englishman River Estuary
Located in the City of Parksville, the 312 hectare Englishman River Estuary is protected by the Nature Trust of BC. Acquired between 1981 and 1992, it is a model for successful estuary conservation and restoration and is part of the Parksville Qualicum Beach Wildlife Management Area.

The estuary supports many species at risk, including Bald Eagles, Northern Goshawks, Townsend’s Big eared Bats, Red legged Frogs, coastal cutthroat trout, steelhead, and multiple salmon species. Each spring, millions of Pacific Herring spawn along the foreshore, and the estuary provides critical rearing habitat for salmonids and other marine life.

Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park
A premier Vancouver Island destination, Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park offers old growth forest, a wide sandy beach, warm shallow water at high tide, and a large day use area. Campsites are within a five minute walk of the beach.

At low tide, the shoreline stretches nearly a kilometre, providing an ideal place for visitors of all ages to play in the sand and explore the shoreline. The park is also a popular birdwatching location, especially during the spring herring spawn and the Brant geese migration (February–April).

Pets

  • Dogs must be leashed and under control at all times.
  • Dogs are not permitted in day use beach areas.
  • Dogs are allowed on the campground adjacent beach (leashed) from May 1 to February 14.
