Economic Development

The Parksville & District Chamber of Commerce recognizes the continued need for “Economic Growth” in the Parksville-Qualicum Beach region and initiated a regional economic development function called Oceanside Initiatives. Oceanside Initiatives is a partnership of local governments, First Nations and business leaders in the Parksville-Qualicum Beach region. Current stakeholder partners:

    City of Parksville
    Regional District of Nanaimo
    Town of Qualicum Beach
Parksville & District Chamber of Commerce
    Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce
    School District 69
    Vancouver Island University
    Parksville Downtown Business Association
    Parksville-Qualicum Beach Tourism Association
    Nanoose First Nation
    Qualicum First Nation

Economic opportunities flourish across the Parksville-Qualicum Beach Region and the goal of Oceanside Initiatives is to remain competitive with other Island and British Columbia regions. Improvement of the commercial sector in Parksville-Qualicum Beach must be based upon comprehensive research, analysis, and most importantly stakeholder consultation. The key to the development of a successful strategy will be to work in cooperation with business and economic growth partners. Economic growth is a vital aspect to enhancing a community’s quality of life by:

  • Competing effectively for good jobs and increased employment opportunities to improve
    Oceanside’s live/work balance
  • Improving the non-residential tax base of the City of Parksville, Town of Qualicum Beach
    and the surrounding unincorporated areas
  • Supporting appropriate and planned growth strategies
  • Generating more business and wealth
  • Creating a diverse and sustainable economic base
